MSU Quad State Honor Choir

Updated: Sep 16, 2019

MVHS Fine Arts Academy Choir students have been invited to audition for the Murray State University Quad-State Honor Choir on November 3-4, 2019. This is an extremely prestigious event for any student in grades 9-12. Auditions are FREE, but the registration/lodging fee is $65 due at the end of October if you are accepted. Students will audition using an excerpt of the 2019 repertoire, Mark Haye’s Gloria (provided in class). Accepted students will travel to Murray, KY on November 3-4th for a two-day clinic with Dr. Bradley Almquist and a performance on Monday evening at 6:30 PM for family and friends. Students would stay overnight Sunday and miss one day of school on Monday. Auditions are due by Friday, September 20th.

Auditions Due – Friday, Sept. 20th

Directors Notified – Friday, October 4th

Registration Fee Due ($65) – Friday, October 25th

AUDITION

The festival choir will be limited to 250 singers selected by recorded audition. Students must record their audition as a digital audio file. They may use piano, synthesized accompaniment, or sing a cappella. Each student must clearly identify themselves by name, grade, and voice part. Singers are highly encouraged to schedule a lesson with Mr. Knight to record their audition, but you may record on your own with or without accompaniment. See the attached music for the audition selection. One page is voiced for Tenor/Soprano while the other side is voiced for Baritone/Alto.

In addition to the main audition material, there are multiple solo opportunities for advanced students. If you are interested in any of the following solos, please see Mr. Knight to setup a voice lesson or recording time. Sheet music is available upon request.

  • Mvt. 1 Gloria: Soprano / Tenor (mm. 93-130)
